Tips for Selling Domain Names

Currently there are many places available online that will let you list your domain name for sale, including ours. Auction sites like eBay! and Amazon are also good places to get exposure for any domain names you have for sale. A word of caution however, since some of the large domain listing sites either forbid you to list your site elsewhere once listing it with them, or they charge you a commission even if you sell it yourself someplace else. Our listings are always FREE with NO commissions charged so we don't mind if you list or sell your name somewhere else! In fact we'll even help you!

Auctions are a fun and easy way to sell a domain name. If you go to eBay!, for instance, and do a search for 'domain name' or 'domain', you'll get a list many pages long. When you scroll through the list you'll see that many (sometimes the majority) of the listings have absolutely no bids on them.  But keep in mind that a lot of the names are just awful (which should make yours stand out if it's a good one), good names tend to start out overpriced (an excellent reason to include a link to an expert appraisal), and lastly, most experienced eBay buyers will wait until near the end of an auction to bid.

There are ways to maximize the bidding on your auctions if you decide to go that route. You'll probably get more bidders if you start the bidding at $1.00 and set a reasonable reserve price (minimum you're willing to accept). Once you've gotten at least one bid, people scanning the list will be more likely to show interest in your auction because bids create interest. Multiple bids will create more interest and can help to drive prices up. Of course if you don't meet your reserve price you don't have to sell the name. Fees for these types of auctions generally run a couple of dollars so its an inexpensive way to get some exposure for the name. Don't be surprised however, if your auction doesn't seem to get much interest or any bids because you never know how many people will be searching for domain names during any given week.
